Here we go . . .

Let me tell you why I consider myself a sweet movie geek. I love movies.
In film class, I actually said there is no such thing as a bad movie. No matter how bad it is, there must be at least one good element in every single film(o f course this was before I watched Freddy Got Fingered).  Even though I have a very different attitude toward film these days, I still believe that statement to a certain degree(that was 10 years ago).

Sitting through the latest Indiana Jones installment was enough to make me rethink how I felt about film(thank you Mr. Lucas for crapping on my childhood), a smile came to my face when we got a glance of the Ark in the first 10 minutes, a reminder of how timeless this series is. Watching Iron Man reminded me what it was like to be a child watching a movie about a character that I knew little of but immediately wanted to be when I stepped out of the theater. The Incredible Hulk made me realize that there is hope for Hollywood to correct mistakes from the past in such a short period of time and The Happening made me appreciate science fiction and how it no longer pertains to little green men in flying saucers (again thank you Mr. Lucas for being cliché).

Rambo, Cloverfield, 10,000 BC , all recent movies that had jarring loop holes and endless issues among critics, yet enjoyable to a certain degree, an escape from reality for 90+ minutes. Overblown, exaggerated fluff like this is entertaining. Yet, in the same breath I can pop in No Country For Old Men, Waitress, Enchanted and Love, Actually(part of my Top 10 of all time by the way) and be just as entertained.

Last weekend, box office history was made(again). The Dark Knight captivated audiences and will continue for the rest of the summer. All the hype, the early reviews and leaks are all a figment of the imagination. I have seen it twice and it is a contender for my Top 10 of all time(repeated viewings will be the final judge). Heath Ledger will probably get nominated. It will end up on the many “Best Of” lists at the end of the year and sequel talk will immediately commence. However, by next weekend, the internets will be leaking footage from the upcoming Harry Potter 17 (or something like that) and Star Trek, and we will be here to comment about it. Welcome to the age of the sweet movie geek. We promise that if you stick with us,  you will know the answer to being sweet.

OK, did you see that new trailer for Terminator, Salvation? It kicks-ass!
